I just read this on Reuters, apparently the Italian online fashion retailer (a House of Luxe competitor!!!!! by the way House of Luxe is a project I was working on with a few friends). Back to the point of this post, Yoox, the online fashion retailer is planning to bring some of the most exclusive fashion brands to China next year. I guess all the big companies’ eyes are open and they are taking great actions to tap into the country with the world’s largest online population.
Emporio Armani, is powered by Yoox, as I posted a few days ago it was the first western fashion brand to debut on the online China market. Yoox is really taking this seriously, all the online stores will be in Chinese, and purchases could be also made in Yuan.
If you don’t know much about Yoox, it is the company that manages the web sites for over 23 of the famous luxury brands such as Marni, Roberto Cavalli, Zegnaa Ferretti, Pucci and Dolce & Gabanna.
Yoox will set up their Chinese subsidiary here in Shanghai, but that will be in the second half of 2011, they will also have their multibrand store Thecorner.com launched.
It is interesting that the websites are only going to be in Chinese, we saw that with the Armani page. I guess it may be a smart strategy to really localize everything to the country here, giving them a competitive advantage over many other businesses.
