Brands doing China: Who’s next?

Photo: From my camera, outside the PRADA store in Shanghai

It started with Dior, Fendi … and now Prada???

China is one of the biggest markets in consuming luxury and fashion apparel products and is the fastest growing market for luxury. Vogue’s editor, Anna Wintour was in Shanghai last month with a vision to create Vogie Fashion Fund, also fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg while she was in China said: “I’d like to sell every Chinese a T-shirt”.

Will China be the next capital of fashion? I am in awe of how China evolved and is the ‘New World’ for luxury and fashion. The Italian luxury brand Prada (who didn’t use any Chinese models in its spring/summer 2010 fashion show that was in Milan) will stage in January 2011 a show for its spring/summer 2011 collection in Beijing. Prada saw a huge rise in its revenue in Asian markets in the past year. Prada is planning to design new pieces for the occasion and Prada’s CEO, Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada are expected to attend. I cant wait to see what 2011 brings to China!
